GENETICS OF AGGRESSION
VICTIM/OFFENDER ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGIES
1 Jul. Genetics of Aggression
The interplay between aggression and cooperation are at the root of Homo sapiens' success as a species. However, the contemporary environment is no longer permissive of aggressive behavior. Thus, understanding the biological and environmental components that are at the origin of aggression is fundamental. Thus, the panel aims to discuss the influence of environmental, psychological and genetic variables on aggression.
HUMAN IDENTIFICATION IN DISASTERS AND MASS GRAVES / CRISIS INTERVENTION
1 Jul. Humanitarian Crises
Humanitarian crises are events that threaten the health, safety and therefore the well-being of a large group of people and can be caused by wars, natural disasters, famines and disease outbreaks. In the present year 2022 alone, humanity faces at least eight major humanitarian crises generated by conflict, climate change, and disease, adding up to hundreds of millions of human beings on the brink of survival and an unknown number of human lives well in excess of a million.
Reflection on humanitarian crises has never been more pressing. Thus, the panel on humanitarian crises aims to address this issue in the light of Forensic Sciences, specifically at the level of human identification in disaster scenarios and psychological intervention in survivors. Thus, the panel will highlight the areas of Forensic Anthropology and Psychology, where experts will elucidate on how to intervene in the context of humanitarian crises.
CANNABIS: HISTORICAL, SCIENTIFIC AND SOCIAL PERSPECTIVES
THERAPEUTIC AND PSYCHOACTIVE EFFECTS / HABITS, MENTAL ILLNESS AND BEHAVIOR
2 Jul. Cannabis: Historical, Scientific, and Social Perspectives
Both the medical and recreational use of cannabis are controversial topics due to the scarcity of factual scientific information and the misinformation that reaches the general public. Thus, this topic requires an informed debate that allows the formation of informed opinions. In this panel, we intend to debate this issue through different perspectives, including therapeutic effects, recreational use, addiction and impact on mental illness and social consequences. As such, the panel on the pros and cons of legalizing cannabis aims to promote debate and reflection on the advantages and consequences associated with its use.
